New 3-year results from the phase 3 ENVISION trial show that Zusduri (mitomycin for intravesical solution) can provide long-lasting disease control for patients with recurrent low-grade intermediate-risk non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer. The study found that nearly two-thirds of patients who achieved a complete response after treatment remained cancer-free three years later.
Patients received only a single 6-week treatment course with no maintenance therapy. The median duration of response has still not been reached after almost 36 months of follow-up, suggesting many patients continue to benefit long term. Earlier trial results showed a 79.6% complete response rate at 3 months, with durable responses remaining strong over time.
The treatment was generally well tolerated. Most side effects were mild or moderate and involved the urinary tract, including painful urination, blood in the urine, and urinary tract infections. Serious treatment-related side effects were rare.
The trial included 240 adults with recurrent bladder cancer and supports the possibility of a simpler treatment approach that may reduce the need for repeated procedures and ongoing clinic visits.
