A study shows that chemotherapy can be safely and effectively given at home through its “Cancer CARE Beyond Walls” program.
In this pilot program, a multidisciplinary team delivered 93 intravenous infusions to 10 patients in their homes. The results showed no treatment-related reactions or catheter infections, suggesting the approach is both safe and feasible.
The program uses virtual visits and remote monitoring, helping patients avoid frequent hospital trips, reduce costs, and experience less disruption to daily life. Patients reported high satisfaction, greater comfort, and said they would recommend home-based treatment to others.
A larger randomized clinical trial, launched in late 2023, is now underway to compare home-based chemotherapy with traditional infusion centers, focusing on long-term outcomes and overall costs.
