EnteroBiotix has completed patient enrollment for its Phase 2a MAST trial, testing the oral microbiome therapy EBX-102-02 in patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplants. The therapy is given as a single dose before chemotherapy to protect the gut microbiome, which is often damaged during transplant and linked to complications like Graft-vs-Host Disease (GVHD) and infections.
The trial involves 50 adult patients with blood cancers such as leukemia, MDS, and lymphoma, randomized to receive either EBX-102-02 or a placebo. The main goal is to measure changes in gut microbiome diversity, with secondary outcomes including safety, GVHD rates, and overall survival. Patients will be followed for 12 months, and topline results are expected in the first half of 2027.
EBX-102-02 is a full-spectrum microbiome therapy, meaning it contains a broad range of microorganisms rather than just one or two strains. The drug has previously shown benefits in irritable bowel syndrome and liver cirrhosis, and researchers hope it can improve transplant outcomes by preserving a healthy gut ecosystem.
