At Digestive Disease Week 2026, Alpha Tau Medical reported strong early results from two first-in-human trials of Alpha DaRT® (Diffusing Alpha-emitters Radiation Therapy) in pancreatic cancer.
In 19 evaluable patients with advanced, heavily pretreated pancreatic adenocarcinoma, the treatment achieved 100% local disease control. Most patients (79%) had stable disease, and 21% showed tumor shrinkage. Side effects were relatively limited, with device-related adverse events in 27% of patients, most resolving within two weeks.
Alpha DaRT works by placing a small radioactive source directly into the tumor through an endoscopic procedure. It releases short-range alpha particles that kill nearby cancer cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
These early results suggest a potentially more precise and less toxic radiation approach for one of the hardest-to-treat cancers, and they are now being further studied in a larger multicenter trial.
